Wook Heo solo exhibition, in association with the Oriental VisArt, Geneva.
MOKSPACE, 25 January 2012 – 7 February 2012
Private view: Friday 27 January 2012, 6-9pm. *The artist will attend.
This is the first solo exhibition in Europe of the work of Korean artist Wook Heo.
It is an extension of the artists work first presented in the Oriental VisArt group show 'The Space Between' in Geneva, March 2011.
Wook Heo disassembles and reassembles painted media to create works that are neither painting nor relief. Through the reconstruction process his works form layers and colour fields that alter the meaning of his subject matter – subject matter that embraces cars, interiors, elements of consumer society and eroticised imagery of men and women.
The artist has indicated an interest in showing the connective point between convergence and divergence in cultural life and identity in contemporary civilization.
In his latest works Wook Heo invites us to make an analysis of what lies between reality and representation, incited by the myriad of ways in which the surfaces and layers of the work can be viewed.
Born in Seoul in 1973, Heo completed his studies at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1998, and his work has featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Korea since 2001.
